i dont think it is that important but so many chicks i know will be like isnt he isnt over 6 feet i dont want him when like the guy is 5'11. what is up with that?

It probably stems from the fact that the more male hormones a man has combined with other factors such as good food, a healthy environment, and access to health care tend to make a larger male. The larger the male the more he is seen as being capable of being a good provider, father, and husband - someone a female would want to combine her DNA with to give the offspring of their union the best chance possible.
There are of course exceptions. If a man excels in an area, such as intellect or finances, his height and looks can be less than desirable as he has demonstrated his ability to be a good provider.
