There's a good chance I would rat them out to employees. Most stores however have a policy saying that they must see the perp take posession of the item and maintain a constant visual on the person until they leave the store. So ratting them out may not actually accomplish anything.

When people steal from a store it is not only the store that they are hurting. The tab for millions of store inventory lost to theft every year is paid by YOU AND ME through added price to items, to cover the cost of shrinkage, insurance, and other loss prevention services.

When you steal from a store its the same as stealing from the working members of society, and that doesn't sit well with me.

If you have no problem watching someone steal from a store, why not just buy the item for them yourself?

If it was family or friends, I'd probably try stop them without trying to get any attention so to not look like I'm involved. But if it was someone I don't know, I'd probably tell the security or the proper authorities.

No, I wouldn't try to stop them. It would depend on the store and situation, but I might go tell a manager or someone who would stop them, if that was their policy.

If I knew them, yes.

If I didn't, an officer of the court is ethically bound to report criminal action like that (committed by a non-client).

And risk getting shot for some stupid item? No way, it's not worth my life. I would notify security though.

I wouldn't call them out. I would point them out quietly to someone who works there. After that, it's their job.

Yes. I often pack a firearm; I wouldn't hesitate to use it, if the situation demanded it.
