You will have to find a C/V joint first. After you take the old axle out of the vehicle, you will have to remove the boot of the joint you want to replace. There should be a snap ring that holds everything together. Sometimes you have to beat the thing apart from the end. (I've had to do this before...a real pain in the behind.) The new joint comes with a new snap ring, anyways. It's the same process as taking it apart to replace the boots. The real question should be, "Should I pay $140.00 each for new C/V joint with a 90 day warranty, (two on each axle,) or should I pay $60.00 to $95.00 for a remanufactured axle with a lifetime warranty?"

Depends--if you're going to replace the entire axle shaft, it's a little bit easier. The problem is, if you're not sure what you're doing and you just want to save money, you could at best screw up your car and at worst endanger your life.

That said, get your set of wrenches, a joint puller, a prybar, and a soft mallet.

Remove the wheel, disconnect the lower ball joint and tie rod end, remove the brake caliper and hang it out of the way. Use an impact wrench to remove the axle nut (be sure to remove the cotter pin first). Now you should be able to just slide the axle out. Put in the new one and reverse removal instructions. While you have the axle out is a good time to replace that transmission/axle seal

A $20 service manual at your local auto parts store will be the best choice for your question and will assist you on all future questions regarding this car. Don't always trust this forum, not everyone will have your best interests at heart..although some will, but how can you tell?
