i have 91 honda accord. the problem is when i start the engine the first time it is ok,but when i leave the car running for 15 minutes and then turn it off i cannot restart the car. i would have to jump the battery for it to start.... what is wrong?

It sounds as though the alternator is not charging the battery or the battery is going out. Have your local auto parts store test the battery out for free, they can check the charging system for free also.

you alternator is going out. when the car starts it is using only the battery, once the engine starts running the alternator takes over running the electricals, and charges the battery. Since the alternator is not charging the car eventually drains the battery causing it to stop running.

I would put my money on the starter. If you jump it and it starts do this....turn on the headlights and turn it over. If they go out it is a weak battery if they stay bright then it is your starter. Sometimes older starters will swell and not turn over properly

More than likely your alternator is going out on you. To know for shure, Autozone will check it for free with a diagnostics machine and let you know where the problem is, from there you can decide what you need to do, check them out.-alex

cheapest way to check is have your battery tested...sounds like you may have a bad cell in the battery. Good luck
