I'm not sure what your definition of classic is. Have you read Stephen Donaldson's books? He has several series. One is the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and the other is Mordant's Need. The Mordant's Need books ("The Mirror of Her Dreams" and "A Man Rides Through") are the ones that got me hooked on his writing.

"The Covenant Chronicles" - Stephen R Donaldson. There are 6 of them, I think....absolutely wonderful books.
If you want really old fantasy novels, you can look for the Edgar Rice Burroughs series, "John Carter of Mars". There were lots of those. They're a bit campy in today's world, but...hey..that happens.
