Ok, I asked this once before, but i guess my details werent good enough. I am interested in getting my nipples pierced. I have already had a child and nursed for a year with no probs. We plan on waiting a while before child number two. Since having a child, my nipples are really sexually sensitive and the idea of piercings is intriguing to me. No, I dont care if you think its trashy or whatever. its a personal thing between my husband and I, not something i would be flashing around. i would OBVIOUSLY REMOVE the jewelry when ready to breastfeed our next child. what i was wondering is if having piercings and then taking them out when we have our next child, would affect my ability to breastfeed.

Yes, piercing your nipples will go fine with breastfeeding. Just go to a very experienced (and reputably good) piercer, and make sure to take extremely good care of them while they heal. The only problem that could arise with a good piercing is an infection, which could cause scarring to the milk ducts, blocking them. As long as you remove the jewelry while the baby is latched on, there's no reason to abandon your piercing when you start breastfeeding again. It's important to clean your nipple(s) well before feeding and after feeding, too.
Ignore the idiots. Nipple piercings are by no means trashy. With simple jewelry, they're beautiful. Also, I want to tell you that I think it's wonderful that you breastfed your first child for so long! So many women do it for a couple of weeks and think it's enough, or just don't do it at all for some very silly reasons. :)

i had my left nipple peirced for a high school graduation gift to myself. it stayed in for 6 months, then i had to take it out. it had no effect on my ability to breastfeed either of my sons. as long as you take it out, which you obviously already know. go ahead and get 'em peirced. if you two found something that you find exciting, go for it all the way. enjoy!

how.....its a stupid question...never...it will nevr affect ur ability to breast feed...
so many peoples doing it...they remove it on the time of feeding(most of women reject it from delivery itself and repierced after baby's growth)
so u just remove it durring feeding period...u can wear it(need re piercing) after ur child stops feeding
keep in touch
bye

It shouldn't affect the breast feeding per se, but it COULD cause permanent nerve damage. For me or my wife, not worth the risk.

I think it should be fine...you should ask your doctor...or a piercer...and they should be able to give you an honest answer for this question...in my opinion i don't think it should have any effect on breastfeeding your next child...just as long as you don't end up scaring...so just ask..it can't hurt...and hey if you can get it done...you'll just end up benefitting!!
