Always make sure your measurements are accurate, not just for width, but make sure you are close for length too (this is from my drafting for a squirmy 4 year old who couldn't handle the tickles from the measurements).
Make sure you add enough ease for comfort as well as to get the garment on and off. This could be a very personal decision for whomever you are dressing, or what the style and fabric is dictating at the time (80's leggings vs yoga pants today).
Always test your draft with a muslin, and don't be upset if you have to do it more than once - fine tuning is always a good thing...
