Amodium AD or Kaopectate. I know I probably spelled both of those wrong, sorry. Spell check only works so well. I noticed that they both have different active ingredients. My husband has had the problem for 3 days and feels like crap, no pun intended.

Immodium AD for an over- the-counter fix. But to help your husband get over this better, try this:

Start by eliminating all solid foods and sipping warm or tepid drinks to prevent dehydration. Drinking half a cup every quarter hour or so is usually enough. Suitable drinks include water, mineral water, herbal teas, and ginger ale. Clear broths also help replace salts and other minerals lost. You can make your own rehydration fluid by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, a pinch of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of corn syrup or honey in an 8 ounce glass of water. If you choose a commercial sports drink make sure that the sugar content is low, anything over 10% can aggravate diarrhea.

Follow the B.R.A.T diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. This is what you should do when you feel like eating, but preferably not within the first 24 hours. Apples and other fruits high in pectin help counteract the diarrhea; that's why unsweetened applesauce is a traditional home remedy. Other suitable foods include salted crackers and chicken-rice soup to help replenish lost sodium and potassium. Avoid milk products until symptoms disappear; some of the organisms that cause diarrhea can temporarily impair the ability to digest milk. Although cooked and pureed fruits and vegetables can usually be tolerated, don't eat raw fruits, high fiber vegetables, and fats until everything is back to normal. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Even within 48 hours after diarrhea has stopped.

Good luck......

The best thing to do is check with your doctor first, have a stool specimen evaluated before taking anything to slow down the diarrhea. It could be related to a bacterial or parasitic infection. Diarrhea can be the body's attempt to rid itself of one of those. Slowing it down would allow those infectious agents to remain in the body, causing other problems. There is also a condition called C-diff (antibiotic induced diarrhea) which needs to be treated with specific meds (not anti-diarrheal agents). Once the doctor has cleared your husband, he can recommend meds to use to slow down the diarrhea(such as Immodium or Kaopectate). Try to encourage your husband to drink as much as possible until the diarrhea is resolved - the dehydration from diarrhea can be serious because of the loss of electrolytes and fluid, most people will feel extremely weak, lethargic, and some will even have palpitations and/or chest pains related to reductions in potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium levels which are lost in the watery stool. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Immodiam is better, I also agree with the others if this does not go away soon, see a dr. You also need to stay hydrated. Keep some fluids coming in. Try Jello water. Pedialyte, Gatorade.
A good remedy is the good old BRAT diet.
Banana's Rice Apple Sauce and dry Toast and do not take Ipecac syrup it is to make a person throw up poison's.
Most viruses should not last over 72 hrs and then you need to let a dr take a look at you. Do not sub for this place please. Get well soon

Drink lots of fluid like water and Gatorade.
Let it pass through you.
Eat rice, ground meat and bananas.
If there is food poisoning or something else those meds will keep it from being flushed out of his system.

If it does not go away in a few days you might need an antibiotic.

Please use whatever medication slowly. If it's a stomach bug, it may pass and the imodium may not help. Someone recommended ipecac. Do not use ipecac. Ipecac used to be used to get rid of poisons in kids who had swallowed poison. It is now not even recommended by doctors.

Ginger and peppermint teas can help.

I'd go with the immodium. I've even found store brands to be just as good!
