I had a 512 mb stick of RAM installed in my computer and today I installed another one. However, when i check my system RAM wih windows, it says I only have 896 mb, why is this? Can i fix this?

it means you have your video adapter built in the motherboard and it is using the other part

if you have bought a ram of 512 mb it doesnt mean that it is going to use all its 512 mb memory, in real it 510.*****mb and when it is rounded up it becomes 512mb. so it is not the fault of the m/board or any other thing in your system. this case also implies in the hard disk drives.

check the wire that connects the other RAM or both of your ram are of different types.there are 2 types of ram SDR and DDR.

I think ur motherboard doesnt support more than 1GB of RAM

Do you have the right speeds for the ram.
