I'm so sick of them shoving Jesus and praising God down my throat. I have my own beliefs and don't need to be spoon fed theirs on a daily basis. I have no problems with Christians who don't shove their faith at others. But it really bothers me when those super, Jesus freak, holy rollers think that they know everything about me and that Jesus is the only way of this world. I'm a good person and just because I don't necessarily think Jesus is God, doesn't mean I'm awful. So quit telling me you'll pray for me, and to find Jesus.

People like Curly98 are PRIME examples of what I'm complaining about.

I am Christian and those people annoy me too !
I feel my obligation is to be kind and try my best to be true to the Lord.
My words are not my Christianity, it is my life and the example I give.

it depends....there are some who are very irritating and like to shove things down people's throats, for sure.

however, there are all kinds of people in this world and there can be a fine line. i am a christian but i'm not preachy. but if i felt lead to take a stand i would. christians, by the bible's own admission, are not like other people, and sometimes it's hard to understand where they're coming from. i can attest to this. i cannot say that all "witnessing" is bad; you may be irritated simply because you do not like the message. i will agree with you that they seem to think they know you and i will agree that they believe they have a spiritual understanding that applies to all people on a basic level. again, let me stress that this knowledge is iterated in different degrees and different ways so it's hard to say exactly what you run into.
i know that i grew up with a religious mother who wouldn't let any of her children breathe. it is a miracle that i am not an atheist. and i will say that when i did meet Jesus in my bedroom when i was 20 one of the first things God told me was that He was not like my mother and that she plays God. this is because to be overbearing with it is trying to be the Holy Spirit to people. christians who don't know any better can overdo it in the same way. i've always found this extremely annoying and embarrassing.

I believe God gave us all guidelines to live by. I think that many people feel they have some special understanding that others don't. To me a person is Christ-like in their behavior and actions. This is far more demonstrative than giving lip service. If a person is truly praying for you that is good. If they are constantly telling you about it, they are showboating.

I'm not going to shove anything down your throat, because it isn't God's way. Jesus is the only way, the bible says it. Being a good person doesn't mean anything unless you have accepted Christ into your life. Your not an awful person, no one is and Jesus certainly wouldn't think so. Ask yourself what it means to be good. Where does being good come from? You said you have your own beliefs, does that mean that you believe in heaven? If you believe in heaven, then you must know that good works won't get you in. Think about it, what does it mean to be good, how many good works do you need to get to heaven. The bible is very clear that the way to heaven is through Christ. If you believe in God, then you must believe that God sent Christ down so that we could be saved, so that we can get into heaven. We will never have enough good works, after all, All fall short of the Glory of God. God is so perfect that to be able to get into heaven, we would need his Son. Oh, and I'm not going to pretend that I know everything about you, leave that up to God. John 3:16, For God So loved the world ,that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.

I've had proselytizers at my door both yesterday & today. This despite the fact that there is a cross hanging on my front door. You have to shut the door in their faces because they just won't quit.

When I was younger, I used to tell them I worshipped the Lord Satan & would leer at them. Now it's just too much trouble.

I know two people like that and I agree, it is extremely irritating. Just ignore them or tell them you have your own beliefs that you're happy with and to leave you alone, but be respectful about it.

I'm a Christian and so is everyone I know, but I'm not a regular church-goer.....one thing my parents have said is "Going to church regularly doesn't make you a good person any more than going to McDonalds makes you a hamburger."

It's good to keep an open mind, when people keep a closed mind they are very hard to communicate with. I understand your frustration and your not alone on that one.

Even though I've never been to Missouri, I sense I have a connection to it. It's the SHOW ME state.

I simply don't blindly believe; you have to show me. But not everyone is like me. Some people will believe just about anything you tell them. And then, to make it worse, once they think they know something, they try to convince others to believe as they do. I think some enterprising business person noticed that, saw an opportunity to use these people, and just started handing them bibles. The rest is history.

On one hand, I feel sorry for these people (I think churches are ripping them off by stealing their hearts, minds, and money). On the other hand, I find it curious that some people can be so easily taken advantage of, and I feel enormously fortunate not to be so ignorant personally.

So, to net out my answer. When I meet people who try to push religion on me, I don't get annoyed, I feel fortunate not to be in their shoes. I feel that the gift I've been given, which I like to refer to as 'common sense,' is much better than the gift they've been given which they refer to as 'faith.' And, in case any religious people are reading this, my gift was given to me by my parents. I guess religious people believe their gift (faith) was given to them by someone they refer to as God.

I also think it's curious that people who are not believers don't feel they need to create an organization (one in competition with the church) that would ask its followers to knock on doors and preach 'common sense,' to anyone who would listen; but that those who have faith (the opposite of common sense in my mind) have gone to great lengths to build organizations that force their followers to knock on doors to try to convince others to have faith. It leads me to believe that those who choose faith rather than common sense feel psychologically threatened by common sense and believe they have to build an organization to defend themselves against it and anyone who might have some of it.

PS: I sometimes look on religion pedlers as I do junk mail. Junk mail is part of the internet. You report it as junk mail, and move on. With religion pedlers, I tell them I'm not into religion, and move on. More recently, I've given my response to religion pedlers a twist. After telling them I'm not into religion, I ask whether they are getting paid for what they do. When the say no, I tell them I think that's a rip off. I then point out that if I were into religion, and they were part of my church, I'd pay them for what they are doing. After all, they're bringing in more people who will make more donations to the church, so it's only fair to share the wealth. (I'm just planting a seed. If it grows, the church leaders (the ones who get the money) will have a major headache on their hands.
