Is the vastness of space the single greatest reason that we have not yet made contact with an E.T. I personally believe that any race smart enough to cross the gulf of space wouldnt contact us because we would be to primitive for them to care about us. They might study us.......

We are already here. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species and your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

That is a possibility that space prohibits the Extraterrestrials from making contact with us. Of course, remember that there could be many forms of life out there which only some can travel beyond the stars. Keep note that one of the reasons they may have not contact us yet is because they are unaware of us.

If they were aware of us and have already traveled to our solar system, they may have already made their first contact on Earth during the ancient times when history wasn't written. I guess you can say that's when they realized how aggressive and primitive our ancestors were at the time.

They became afraid or maybe just lost interest in us and left Earth to its own fate. During many millennia, they would wait and watch us in secret in the hopes we will become better humans in time. Hoping they can contact us again.

This is just a theory I thought up on my own so don't take it personally.

Using the Star Trek universe as a reference point, and using the Prime Directive of the Federation to show you an example, the prime directive "dictates that there be no interference with the natural development of any primitive society, chiefly meaning that no primitive culture can be given or exposed to any information regarding advanced technology or alien races. It also forbids any effort to improve or change in any way the natural course of such a society, even if that change is well-intentioned and kept totally secret. 'Primitive' is defined as any culture which has not yet attained warp drive. Starfleet allows scientific missions to investigate and move amongst pre-warp civilizations as long as no advanced technology is left behind, and there is no interference with events or no revelation of their identity." (en.wikipedia.org, under "Prime Directive"). Perhaps, whatever intelligent life that may or may not exist in our vast universe, has some sort of Prime Directive as well, which does not permit them to interfere with us in any way, until we have developed past a "Primitive" state, at which they will approach us with what they might call First Contact, when we will be welcomed by the suppposedly more "advanced" species in the universe, presumably Vulcans. However, imagine as well, the possibility that all other intelligent life is "stuck" in the same situation as we are, unable to make contact due to technical and physical limitations, which would definitely serve as a decent explanation. Again, imagine that there is some sort of common root for Humanoid life, which originates in another part of the universe, that we are the last, and probably most advanced, and that we don't have any other chance of meeting intelligent life. Which brings me to my next point. Imagine, in this universe, if intelligent life does exist, only not in our Humanoid form. Imagine, possibly, dust clouds with intelligent nuclei and non-verbal telecommunication, and we simply have no way to communicate with them. Imagine small, flat blotches of sticky goop. They could be an advanced civilization of their own, yet we hose them off our sidewalks and scrape them off our shoes. I have a million other theories, but they aren't important.

Considering that our planet is such an insignificant grain of sand on the beach of the universe, the chance finding us is next to nil.

The late Carl Sagan often said he wondered why the only ones to see "flying saucers" were the ones wearing there baseball hats on backwards in their pick up trucks, but they never seemed to ever fly over MIT.
