Yeah but Zappa was a very VERY good musician with an excellent band. His stuff was way over most people's heads.

I didn't know we were talking about Weird Al. Frank Zappa was a legend. No one could touch what he did for music both as a musician/songwriter and as an advocate for free speech. Arguably the most well-spoken, intelligent freak of the 60's to ever address congress! If you ever get a chance to see him when he addressed congress on the issue of language in music, watch a master orator at work.

Because Frank Zappa offended people, and was a freak. He's also dead, and hasn't had a hit single since 1982.
I liked some of his music, but I didn't care for his humor or lyrics. He was a brilliant musician though.
To answer your question, because Frank Zappa wasn't as funny as Wierd Al. I mean "Eat It" was way funnier than "Cosmic Debris". The music is way better, but I think Wierd Al's main goal was to make fun of other people's music, and Frank Zappa's goal was to make music funny, different concepts, Zappa succeded to a certain extent, but not something to be remembered for.

COMEDIC???!!! What the???? are you talking about??

He was a masterful musician who took serious issues and made them easily digestable so that even when we didn't want to look at these things we had to, what a genius!!!

"I was surprised that someone could be so multi-talented, such a good writer, and so articulate a composer. Moreover, he was a virtuoso technician on guitar and had an incredible sense of humor. He had all those skills and the ability to conceive, write, and orchestrate very complex orchestral scores.

I wouldn't label Zappa a "comedic musician". He definitely had an off beat sense of humor, but I don't think many of his "songs" were recorded strictly for the sake of yuks.

They weren't even in the same class of music. But I can talk about Zappa all night. He was a musical genius.
