It looks so retarded and uneducated. It's not like they're rushed for a reply. Do they not know how to spell words like "you" (u), "are" (r), to (2), "L8" (late) "4" (for), "skewl" (school) and stuff? And I'm sure they can click on spell check, right?
They're ansewering people's questions and trying to give advice. The least they can do is pretend to be intelligent. Perhaps they're just interested in gaining the 2 points for a reply and don't really even read what they're writing and saying?

I've noticed that a lot lately. I'm guessing most of them are about 12. Or, they really don't know how to spell.
Some one went off a few hours ago about anyone over 25 needed to get off this website.
Jenny - if you are for real an English teacher - I now understand why my kids have such a poor grasp of English grammer. lol (just bending, not breaking) Does this new genre not include caps and punctuation?

so that you can have somebody 2 b better than. chill a bit... i'm an english teacher and recognize that this type of format is a completely new genre from other writing that has been "established" by the writing gods of the past AND present standards such as APA and MLA. while we need to teach correct writing, it is completely wrong not to allow exploration and change. english is a dynamic language and we need to allow it to bend with trends and seasons. bending is different from breaking, i know. but "2" and "sk8" are bends, not breaks.

i agree that using proper english is good and all, but when im typing stuff NOT for a paper, grammar and spelling isnt on my mind and i really dont care either.. if you really cant read it, try sounding things out.. yeah tht sounds lame but really.. l8r=L+eight+R=Late+er=Later...tht may not have made much sense to anyone else, but it does to me.. as for words like THT, U, and R, its shorter, faster, easier to type quickly.. and SKEWL i agree is just plain stupid cuz i mean like the E makes it sound like Sqeel lol

that is very true . People think they are just chatting with a friend or something . They don't realize that there talkin to a complete stranger who probably has no clue wat the heck there saying . People should just type everything out instead of confusing people .

it is kind of annying and i dont go all crazy like that but i do do some of it. it makes it easier and faster to type. but as long as it is understandable, does it matter?
