Hello! I currently have a BS in Communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. I fell into this major, and got to a point where it would be easier to finish said degree as opposed to starting over. I hate to consider going back and getting a second Bachelors, so I was looking at a Master's degree option. But, I would like to consider studying something other than communications. Can I pursue a Master's degree in something totally unrelated to communications, or am I locked into this particular area? I have yet to seriously begin investigating this option yet, so please pardon my ignorance.

How much trouble you have switching tracks will depend on the programs that you apply to and the amount of preparation you have for that field. Generally, a graduate program doesn't require that you have a degree in their subject, but they do require that you have a decent grounding in it.

I have a BS in Accounting. I got a MA in History. While I was figuring out what I wanted to major in as an undergrad, I took a bunch of humanities courses. So, I had no trouble with the requirement that I have 24 semester hours in History. I went to a second tier school, so if I hadn't had those courses they probably would have admitted me provisionally and made me prove that I understood the subject well in order to continue, as they did with one of my classmates. However, not every school will do provisional admissions.

I'd say, think about what you really want to do and then start looking at what the schools with that program require. You might need to take a class or two, but you may be just fine. People change fields for grad school all the time, so don't limit yourself if you really want to do something different.

you can get a master's in whatever you want. the 2 are not related. 2 Bachelor's degrees won't get you much. A master's degree warrants a higher salary.

Depends on what you are interested in -- there are probably several you could do MFA in writing (perhaps also in other artistic areas), MAT (master of arts in teaching), MBA -- probably depends on the institution you are looking at, and your desires. DO go for your desires.

You are not completely locked in. You could get an MBA.
