actually this happens more than you think, but its not the wealthy or the famous. its the poor people who will give you a jacket if your cold, give you a dollar for a soda, give you a ride somewhere, ect. they work hard and barely get by, but they will be the first to help anyway they can and expect nothing in return. ive been fortunate to have been able to hang with both the rich and the poor. there are exceptions to every rule, but the poor people know what its like to be down and out. sometimes something really small can make all the difference in the world to someone. if everyone who is wealthy or even middle class could live on the street, or even associate with those that do for 1 week would come out with a different point of view and probably be a better person because of it.

Your question has no answer to it; there is no such thing as an unselfish motive. People always have, and always will act in their own best interests.
A lot of folks feel like that is a bad thing.
It isn't, not really. It's just a product of being self-aware; if you acted in any way other than in your own best interest, you wouldn't really be thinking at all.
It's important to remember that acting in your own best interest is not the same thing as being selfish - just because you benefit from an action does not mean that others can't benefit too. Although being selfish is one way to advance your own interests, it usually isn't the best way.

yes, I believe in altruistic behaviour...I think it's evolutionarily advantageous to the perpetuation of the species..
10 things I did...well not 10 things today...but
I did go up on the garage door roof of my condo and water the plants up there because they looked way too dry..I live on the other side of the building and nobody will ever know I did it.
I cleaned out a really messy bush in the garden by our fish pond today..it had lotsa dead branches.
I gave my mandarin teacher a plant I had started from seed because she told me that she had moved into a condominium with a balcony and missed all the outdoor plants..I don't get credit for the course.
I realize how small these things are..but I really did do them with no expectations of rewards.......
