I've lived in Tucson and Bisbee, Arizona, and several places in Colorado. I think you may like Durango, Colorado. Durango sits at the southern edge of the San Juan Mountains, the most extensive mountain range in Colorado. Great forested mountains lie to the north and east of Durango, while the high desert country of the Four Corners Region lies to the south and west. Fort Lewis College is in town, while Mesa Verde National Park is a few miles to the west. Durango is both a wonderful place to visit and a great place to live.

Loveland. It's about an hour north of Denver and is rapidly growing. It would still be more expensive than anywhere but the largest cities in AZ, but it would be a great investment. Also, because it's growing, there are job opportunities, but like anywhere it depends on the field in which you are looking.
La Junta out on the plains east of Pueblo is quite small and not growing. I'm not entirely sure, but I think there's a community college there. I don't know about job opportunities.
Try a google search for Colorado Community Colleges and see what towns come up.

There is a town called Steamboat Springs. It's a resort town, so it can get a little pricey and there is a college town. There is also Craig, which is about 40 min from there, more affordable. A lot of people who live in Craig commute to Steamboat.
Durango is beautiful, Gunnison is a really really really small town. The only thing going to them is the college, good luck finding a job.

Littleton.
Real estate went down dramatically after the Columbine shootings. Realistically, how likely is something like that going to happen again in the same damn town???
Not very likely...but people are superstitious....which gives you a chance to make a killing on a home.
