It is not just about anesthetics or the Japanese. All Asians in the U.S. need "dose adjustments" for all drugs. Most drug-trial participants in the U.S. are Caucasians although the body's reaction to drugs differs by ethnicity. Studies show that the popular ulcer drug Prilosec accumulates in the blood of Asian Americans four times as much as it does in Caucasians. Therefore, dose adjustments are needed for all Asians in the U.S. Otherwise, their bodies might be adversely affected by "overdose."

I don't know much about anesthetics. However, regarding to the medicines sold in dragstore in US or Europe, yes, half or 2/3 of quantities are enough for Japanese. Maybe some Asian too.

You better ask in medical category.

Genetics are different, plus in their home countries, they do not pump them up with steroids and antibiotics so their tolerance to such drugs is much much lower.

For example, I need EIGHT Bufferin pills in Japan to get rid of a headache I had. When the office I was working in saw me take HALF the box in one go, some of the secretaries yelped and just about everyone else freaked out. Hahahaha...

Different bodies and different approaches to medicines mate.
