How do I shorten the startup time of my T42 Lenovo Computer?

My T42 Lenovo Computer takes several minutes to start up and close down. How can I make that process quicker?

delete the program that u don't need or use from quick start.they do take time to load when ur computer start.

uninstall some of the sw you're running on it....
