Contrary to what several of you Yanks are saying, NO, England is NOT an Island. However, Great Britain (comprised of the countries England, Scotland and Wales) IS an island. These answers are yet another example of the awful state of education in the USA (the persistently lousy spelling on this site being the other glaring example).
Incidentally, the full name for the UK is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so strictly speaking the UK is NOT an island, as it is comprised of one and one third islands (not counting the Scottish Isles, Anglesey, or independently governed dependencies such as the Isle of Man, Guernsey or Jersey).

If you define an Island as a piece of land which is entirely surrounded by water then England is not an Island. Wales to the West forms one of its borders and Scotland to the North forms another border. England is, however, part of an Island, but there again which country isn't ultimately.

This island is called Great Britain because it is the largest island of the British Isles.

NO. England is on an island together with Scotland, Wales, and Cornwall.
Albion is another name for England, but I don't think it refers to the whole island.
