According to the Genesis in the Bible it is said that actually Adam is missing two ribs when God, took them to create Eve. In the first creation, God, the Father Eloyhiym, created Michael (Adam) from the dust of the ground after His own image(the masculine side). To keep him company, He then created Lucifer (Eve) after the image of the Holy Ghost or Spirit (the female side).Thereafter,God destroyed the first creation and created the second which accounted for the second missing rib.
.However, scientists logically disputed the evolutionary theory of French biologist, Lamarck. He proposed that a lost rib, or an amputated thumb could be passed from a parent to offspring. Generations of Jewish and Muslims males have been circumscised but their children are never born circumscised. Because this genetic defect has to be in the genetic code or the DNA.
Likewise a rib taken from Adam would not mean his offspring especially the males were born subsequently with out these missing ribs.
This fact is further substantiated by the science of medicine. Thoracic or chest surgeons normally utilize bones from the ribcage for grafting. It all depends how these ribs are peeled carefully to leave the periosteum ,the membrane covering the bones intact as much as possible. The periosteum has the capacity to regenerate or grow back in whole or part.
The ribcage is the ideal place for this situation due to the fact that the attached intercoastal muscles have a good blood supply.
So therefore, it's unlikely that man has less ribs than woman.. Today, man has 12 sets of ribs just like a woman. As you can see i did a thorough research to give you logical and factual answers to a serious question- from a religious to a scientific standpoint.
After i wrote my lengthy dissertation whew! I read the other replies as I normally do. I laughed hysterically at jessejamesthegreat's reply and joke. Thanks i needed that.

Humans (both male and female) have 24 ribs (12 sets). This was noted by the Flemish anatomist Vesalius in 1543 setting off a wave of controversy.
The human rib cage is a part of the human skeleton within the thoracic area. A typical human ribcage consists of 24 ribs, 12 on each side of the thoracic cavity. (A small proportion of people have one pair more or fewer.) Ribs are attached behind the vertebral column.

OK, here is the Whole Story:
You Ready for this?
God created man.
God gave the earth and its creatures to man.
After Man (Adam) named all the animals on earth, God saw that Adam looked sad and Lonely.
So God asked Adam, "Whats wrong my Son?"
Adam responded, "I am so greatful for all you have given me my Lord, but I feel sad and Lonely."
God asked,"What else do you need my son?"
Adam responded," I need a companion"
God then paused and then said,"My son Adam, I can creat the most wonderful and beautiful creature yet, one that will love you and adore you and will fulfill your most deepest desires. One that can satisfy you in every way and that would follow your every command without question."
Adam stop and thought for a minute and then asked, "What is it going to cost me?"
To this God responded, "An arm and a leg."
Adam stunned by the hefty price to pay, gave this offer great thought and after long thought to this offer, came back to God and said,"Lord my Father, what you offer is certainly tempting, but the price to pay is also high."
God then responded, "So what do you suggest?"
At this Adam continued, "What do you offer for a Rib?"
And So it is written, God created Woman and we have suffered ever since.
