I stopped watching the news except for the weather. I could not take any more. Scott and Lacy Peterson for example, or that girl in Aruba, have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with my life. Yet millions of Americans got fired up day after day for months about both of those stories. Sure I feel sorry for the families and victiims too, but very briefly and limited because I don't even know them and there isn't a thing I can do to help. So why make myself miserable. I can make myself miserable about the guys getting killed in Iraq, or about the Katrina victims or whoever it is next week. And what good does it do them or me??? Again, sorry but I have more than enough troubles of my own than to cry every day for all the abused children and other tragedies in this world.
Out of about 6 billion people on earth there are probably several million tragedies every day. Are we citizens able to prevent them? No. Sorry, but that is just a fact of life.
The reports I 've seen say that way over 90% of child abuse is by relatives and friends so, unless we see something, there is nothing we can do about it. How are any of us supposed to know what is going on in the house next door, let alone half a mile from here?? All any of us can really do is report anything we see to the authorities and hope they at least put the bad guys away for a very long time.
Public service type messages won't work either. I'll turn them off because I don't want to be upset just like I do with all horrible commercials and the news. The bad guys and abusive parents will do the same thing. I guess the only thing is to have the schools let the kids know that they can report problems there.

Thank you for your question. What a sweetheart!
Listen, I have been doing a lot of research on child abuse for a public relations class. I chose that subject because it is something that I hold dear to my heart and I think that more people need to be aware of it.
The whole problem with abuse is people do not understand it, there are so many myths and so many theories. I know that if our public is more educated and more aware of child abuse and domestic violence, then people will start to reach out more and more will be done.
The numbers climb every year, it's incredible. I saw pictures of the terrible things that people do to their loved ones and I wanted to throw up. It made me cry, I just could not believe it.
It really is a problem that the public needs to become more aware of and learn about.

I've been thinking the same thing. One time I was trying to sleep, and something woke me up that sounded like a child's voice saying "Help me!". Today I was thinking about that stepmother who locked her child in the basement. I think there's a hidden part of america that's really terrible that we don't know about, and maybe the truth is finally coming out, that we are abusing our children, by neglect, and sexual abuse, and other things like the Jon Benet ramsy case. Be observant, pray, and listen to what children say. I'm not sure what else to do, I don't like to report abuse, because the child will be taken away, but maybe this issue needs to be brought to the attention of society.

Humanity keeps me up every night. I can't sleep comfortably knowing that such horrendous things happen all the time. I cannot fathom why anyone would do something to harm someone else. I feel extremely helpless...I just wish people would get together and try to change the world because we are getting sucked in this hole and we're not going to be able to climb back up.

I avoid the news alltogether, if there is something significant that I need to know, I will find out about it. By watching the news, we feed into the whole " Im just going to sit back and watch " part of the world. If you really want to change anything, sitting on your butt and shaking your head is not going to do it.

There are plenty of organizations against it. You as a citizen can join one. I know of BACA which is huge (Bikers Against Child Abuse), and by joining or at least getting info you can donate time or money to help these kids, and maybe even meet them.

Separate true child abuse from contrived child abuse.
For example, your typical spanking is a contrived child abuse. Bring back spankings, and society will be so much better off.

No because I know the truth.
While these things are horrible the statistics show this is happening less often then ever and people aren't keep it secretive so these kids will get good mental health early.
What can we do to prevent it?---Simple be aware and don't keep secrets.

The news media is run by the government.
They use it to desensitize you and demoralize you.
While you are in this catatonic state you will not realize what they are doing and that's all they want.
