I'd say that having a working knowledge of human behavior and interactions is about half of it. That lets you develop the ability to make the right decisions, especially under stress, which, I would say is the other half.

It's that invaluable knowledge that can't be taught, and only comes through experience.

I think it's called, "street smarts" and it means Common Sense. Knowing things that aren't necessarily taught in books and school. It's like the things you learn in "The School of Hard Knocks". Have you ever heard of that?

Anyway, it's just naturally knowing what to do in most situations. Being wise to the ways of the world. When you're street smart, no one can get over on you because you're cautious and know how to look out for yourself...without having to be told.

In other words, your capability to survive the stresses and pressures of living the lower class street life. Not necessarily refering to actually living as a homeless, but living socially on the streets. your on the right path... but it also means knowing how not to get into a predicament on the streets (fights, getting robbed, assualted)... sort of wearing a game face to make you part of your surroundings and not alien to them. When people see that you stand up for yourself and don't look the part of a victim you have a better chance of surviving the streets.
