It sounds like a Concord Grape (as in Concord Grape Jam from Smuckers mmm).

A little secret about them is...let them hang on the vine until the first frost if you can. The frost will enhance the sugars so the grapes will be so much sweeter.

But - make sure to grab them before the Robins do. They LOVE grapes.
