can i connect any notebook HDD to another notebook without caring for it to fit exactly

Yes,

They all use IDE or SATA

Older notebooks will use IDE, as new new new ones will have sata

Now, each notebook has a caddy, which converts the harddrive to the current connector needed for the laptop.

No....if you try to install a hdd with the wrong type of connection it may damage your motherboard and ruin you computer. Make sure the connectors on any new hdd look exactly the same as the one that was originally in the laptop

no they do not. a caddy is used to hold the hard drive and attach to the laptop but each connector is different.there are some older laptops that have direct connectors but these are the exception. u can buy a connector of ebay if u need one.

I believe they do have the same connectors but it will need to fit exactly.

You can use external USB but some notebooks use proprietary HD which can be difficult to get working or cause crashes
