I believe King George #? (sorry, not 100% here) had approximately 8 of his wives beheaded & I've always assumed by guillotine. He did this just because they did not give him sons. Basically each time he had one wife beheaded, he re-married & then when that wife did not produce a son, she was beheaded. Little did he know that HE was the reason for the lack of male children! I also believe I was taught in school that one could be sentenced to the guillotine for treason. Hope this helps.

You were guillotined if you didn't pay your land taxes to your king when his men came around to collect (you were hauled off to the gallows and guillotined the next day; if you got caught stealing; if you did it with another man's wife; if you worked (grew crops) on more land than the king alotted to you; claimed land (squatting, which was very much hated by landlords; this is where the term landlord came from, back in the medieval days); you were lodging anyone from enemy land or kingdoms.

doing anything the monarch did not approve of. you could probably breathe in their direction and it was off with your head. but on a more helpful note, murder, being accused of being a witch(stupid reason #1) possibly even stealing a piece of fruit(definately stupid reason also), anything is possible with decaputation as a punishment, when it was legal of course.
i hope this helps.
