That would depend on the time, location, formality, and the bride herself.
If she is having a bridal shower AND a bachelorette party, save the black for the party. If she is only have the shower, then look at the invitation to determine the dress code. If it's an afternoon or morning event, then black might look too formal. If it's outside, then it might be too dark (not to mention hot).
When in doubt, call and ask either the host or the bride. They can give you a better idea about proper attire. Some women wouldn't care, others would be offended.

yea..black is a beautiful color. wear red or turquoise with it to add some boldness to it! bridal shower should be fun not just "poised"..its the time for the bride to just have crazy fun so the guest should be in a crazy mood too. pastels makes things so formal, in my opinion.
