Joan Jett: throughout her entire career, Jett never compromised her rock sound...which remains true to this day. Joan wins: bar none.
Pat Benatar, on the other hand, let her chance to be a hard rock diva (something unheard of in a male dominated music genre) go by being distracted by Neil Geraldo, her guitarist---and eventually, her husband. After she and Neil said "I do", the driving rock sound from Benatar up and walked out.
Benatar has NO new current rock songs that recapture that of "Heartbreaker"........

PAT BENATAR! Shes a great singer whereas Jett was all attitude. Jett wasn't much of a singer.
What about Chryssie Hynde (Pretenders) or Ann Wilson (Heart)? I would take either of these over your two choices.

Benatar-much more powerful voice but you sure can't say anything negative about Jett either.

Pat Benatar, Ellen Foley would be my #1 choice. She's the female vocalist on Meatloafs - Bat Out Of Hell album. Not the girl you see in the Paradise By The Dashboard Light video that's Karla Devito who also has an awesome voice.
