need to know how to change transmission seals on a 1987 dodge ram truck, like what tools i would need and if there is anything else i will need to purchase other than the seals.

It's a big job. You have to un-bolt and drop the transmission (which weights over 600 lbs) and then tear off your pan, torque converter, etc. It's a huge pain, if you haven't done it before or don't feel comfortable ripping your truck apart, don't do it.

dependes on which seals. there are a few that can be done in the vehicle, but if it is the front seal where the torque converter goes in that is a whole other mess. If you are replacing the front seal you might as well do the bushing and check for wear on the converter shaft. (grooves etc) All of these seals are quite delicate and require the specialized tools just for these seals and transmission types (gm, ford, dodge etc) I would pay the duckets to have it done and get the warranty. It will be a major pain in the azz if you don't.

I work part time in my father in law's shop - he specializes in transmissions. trust me - take it to a transmission shop

if front seal is leaking its got pump problems. take to trans repair shop.
