Pluto was just the first Plutino discovered. Depending on the definition, there are between 200 to 23,000 of them. [1] one of them is named 'Plutino.' [2]

I don't think Pluto was ever a planet in the classical sense.

The ancients named the planets 'wanderers' as they catalogued the constellations. They never saw Pluto and never called it a planet. Being a planet is not a 'title' granted, it is a thing that can be seen to change the direction of its celestial path when viewed from Earth.

;-D Personally I don't think we should call anything a planet it it can't be seen from Earth with a pair of binoculars.

The scientists established criteria for being a palanet that excluded a score of others from being eligible for that same title. We will all continue to refer to Pluto in our lists of planets. Hopefuppy we'll be informed enough to refer to Pluto as that distant solar system body "formerly known as Prince—I mean planet"

I think astronomers decided to strip it of its "planethood" and refer to it as a "dwarf planet" because new discoveries led scientists to re-consider the definition of a planet. Also, I believe that Pluto is considered part of the Kuiper belt of asteroids.

I'll still probably think of it as a planet regardless.

i like pluto and i am a keepin it. the conglomerate "they" theory is that it is an asteroid. it is like changing the name of your hometown just because a city council meeting decided you should, and then trying to make everybody call it the new name henceforth. it is futile. a lot of folks will just start losing at jeopardy, and trivial pursuit.

not a chance....so they say they downgraded it from a planet. what is it now? i wonder if they ever have given it an alternative name? I think it's just all kinds of silly.

I'll go one better than that and continue not to refer to it at all.
