They are palm readers. I think that it could be possible for people that have studied this very indept that they could read someones palm. I have a book on it but I haven't been very successful in it. But yes I think so.
This site will let you read your own palm with instructions on how to do it. Have fun.

Hello dazzed,
The field you're talking about is better known as: palmistry / palm-reading/ hand-analysis / chirology / and chiromancy.
Regarding the validity and reliabilty of the practioners in this field ... I wondered myself as well, and I have putten it into some interesting research experiments. You can read about the results at:
http://www.handresearch.com/hand/Evolutie/10jaarEngels.htm
I hope this report helps you to find your own answers.
Best whishes!
PS. Some of these experiments were joined by professional handanalysts from all over the world.

Is it possible that the lines in your hands has something to do with your genetic code?
Maybe.
Does your genetic code influence who you are and you will become?
Most likely.
Would it be possible to extrapolate from these lines who you are or who you will become?
Partly, there are surely part of nurture+environment in who you are and will become.
Does someone actually broke the code?
Let me doubt about it.
Btw, If anyone was able to read past and future that person would rule the world.
Apart from that it just depends on your own beliefs and there is not much we can do about that.
I don't believe it's possible and I would recommend you don't waste your money.

i've never put much faith in palm readers, i could be wrong tho. talent manifests in really strange ways. if you look at your hands you'll notice that they are different. if you're right handed, that hand will show what you've made of the life you could have had that is shown on the left hand...

It's called palm reading, I went once and paid $20 to get mine done,
The chick guessed my past pretty darn close. Enough that I was freaked out, But she failed miserably on the fortune telling part.

I don't really believe in that stuff but am curious about it sometimes when not much else is going on.
