Here's the latest figures I was able to find - someone else may have a line into more recent data:

"The 2002 median household money income in the United States was $42,409..." Current Population Reports, United States Bureau of the Census.

Go to this site. Sorry, but it only goes to 2003. This is due to how long it take the census bureau to go through their data. Also, there is no US average, it is by state. If you want a US average, add all the states up and divide by 50.

I believe avg is around $31-34,000

much less for average American.
