Some people use calcium sand and don't have problems, but there is the potential that he could ingest too much sand and get an impaction. It is generally not recommended as a substrate. Check out www.anapsid.org for more care info.

I have a leopard gecko..... colored sand will not hurt ur gecko unless it has chemicals (which it doesnt)... the only thing that makes it different from regular sand is that it just has coloring like food coloring which is completely harmless. But i will warn you now if you get CALCIUM SAND it isnt good because too much calcium for a leopard gecko can make it very sick and possibly die...i read it in a guide to taking care of geckos but it still needs calcium..just not a way too much.

GECKO not Geico. Sand is not great for any reptile because they can ingest it while eating and it can cause impaction or blockage in the intestines and kill the lizard. Even calcisand.
