Many Singaporeans want to have the best of both worlds ( kiasu factor I guess ), the Government is actively recruiting foreign talents to fill in the jobs that Sinagporean deem as below their status or do not pay enough. In terms of the better status jobs, the educated Singaporeans prefer to go to "ang mo" countries as the Xenocentric ( foreign is better ) mentally is still present in previously colonised countries like Malaysia and SIngapore. ( take note... S'porean and Ang mo enters a shop... shop keeper beams a big toothy smile at ANg Mo and ignores S'porean, puffs up the worst accent and says " Herro sir, can I hap'chu?" ) And having been "overseas" gives better face to family.

Now that said... with foreign talents/skilled workers in the country, I hear many Singaporean ranting about how the foreigners are killing the market because their pay demand is usually lower and get the same benefits like medic insurance and cpf. Foreign workers appreciate the benefits given them and most decide to stay as PR.

A Malaysian PR friend told me to try this, and I tested it out... talk to anyone in a gathering, if they praise singapore.. 7 to 10 chances are they are not singaporeans but PR in Singapore hehe. People not born with such benefits usually appreciate it more.

At large, Singaporeans do not have a problem with foreign talent EXCEPT when they cannot get jobs in amellika, auztaylia or yew-lope. It all boils down to Dollars and Cents if the foreign talents bring down market value then you will hear the "wah lau" or the "mother-flower-crabs" statement resounding in booming hokkien or clanging cantonese.

Not at all, because many foreigners think that Singapore is a wonderful country. Singapore lost her own talented people to other countries and also because of the poor birth rate to replace the population. Thus, this is the only solution of foreign talent replacing the lost of local talents and the low birth rate.
