When in Rome dress/eat like the Romans.
It means wherever you are, try to adapt to the local cultures and habits, and do what the locals do.

I've heard the phrase, heeded the advice and reaped the benefits of the advice. I think it's a form of diplomacy. I think the ancient Romans were offended when people who visited rome didn't do the things that they routinely did, so the people may have been treated badly while in Rome. So this became a bit of advice that survived the centuries. I don't really like the sound of the actual application in the way it was originally used, because the ancient Romans used to worship thier Emperor and I would have to refuse to do that. I think people would pretend to worship the Emperor so they woudn't get thrown in jail.

It means that when you are among people who act in a certain way, it's best to pretty much act the same way instead of being totally opposite. That's for this day and age. During the days of the Roman Empire, people were killed for not being what was perceived as a loyal Roman. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" is the full quote.

When in Rome act like the Romans!
It means to adapt to your surroundings. It is not always the best thing to do. Remember just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you have to either

It's short for "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," meaning that you should assimilate to their culture so you don't stand out.

I swear I asked this very same question last year at school, asking people "What the fook is it that the Romans did?! They did lots of crap!" Then when I found out, I was like "That's it!? That saying's fooking STUPID!"

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. That means whereever you are, act like you belong! Blend in, by watching those around you and what they do. Then just mimic till you really know what you're doing! :) good luck!

It basically means that when you visit some place you adapt to the way things are done there. If you go to a country, or state, where everyone (it's very late so bear with me) only wears 1 shoe, then you only wear one shoe too. Does this make sense? it's waaay past my bedtime.

It means you should do as the locals do. Follow their customs. If you're visiting Spain and the locals take a siesta, it makes sense to have an after-lunch nap as well so you're not too tired to party with them all night!

When in Rome, do as the Romans.

Basically it means blend in with people, or go with the flow.
