The reality TV series “Survivor” has been losing viewers in recent seasons, do you think “Survivor” is promoting racism with it’s latest stunt to regain a bigger audience?

Not really. In the past Survivor has separted groups based on gender and age. I think it's just another way of group individuals to see what kind of drama they can stir up. T.V. is about ratings, so shows do what they think will bring in the highest rating. It must be working because here we are talking about it and it hasn't even aired.

Host Jeff Probst said in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly: "I would come in and always get asked, 'Why aren't there more black people on the show? Where are all the Asians?' So the idea [was] to take on something we are critcized for. We decided, Let's try to have the most ethincially diverse cast in the history of TV."

The problem - in my opinion - is that the cast isn't ethnically diverse, it's ethnically segregated. They could have had the diversity and found a new twist to the show without bringing us all back to the dark days of U.S. history when we treated people of color shamefully. Of course, this wouldn't stir up the controversy that CBS is hoping will translate into ratings. That's why they are going ahead with it.

And it's sad.

Yup, just another hot button marketing tactic. Get everyone worked up about it when the radio and TV talk shows hash and rehash. Half the people who feign backlash will watch it anyway. One of the reasons I rarely turn on the TV any more and don't bother subscribing to cable.

Yes, this is obviously a publicity stunt and it IS promoting racism, but I'm sure they don't see it that way. I think it's going to turn out really bad and they're going to regret doing it.

Survivor is old news and they're desperate for ratings anymore. Many of us stopped watching that stupid show many seasons ago.

Oh yes.....it has to do what it can to stay on top...I thought it would be that some one dies.....but maybe it will be racism......It's sad...I like the Amazing Race, it's not just bunch of manipulation......it's also part luck, skill and knowledge......

When I first heard that they were going to split up the tribes by race, I was appalled. In my opinion, they're stooping pretty low for ratings.

What are they doing now? I hate that show. My boyfriend and I hardly see his parents and when we drove 30 min to see them his father wanted to watch that show. I was frusterated. They even have TVO or however you spell that.
