As much as I really like Maury, do you think its fair that there should be an automatic daddy/baby DNA testing once the baby is born? Get the child's weight and measurements and finger/foot prints, then swab its cheek? I think its fair. Because it would save a lot of men from child support (the ex wife not mentioning she cheated) and it would save a lot of money from DNA tests later in the future. So when that child looks into that man's eyes and calls him daddy, he can have the peace of mind knowing that the child is truely his. Im for it.
Laying in the hopspital, waiting on contractions to get heavier before they gave me an i.v., a woman was about 10 feet from me (we were in a triage waiting for rooms to open) when her man walked out on her saying he knew that child wasnt his (it wasnt even born! it was about to be!) and it just made me think "if there was an automatic DNA testing at birth, he would know. No fuss, no wondering. Just the truth.
Give me your opinion.

oh yeah. and im the step mother of a 5 year old boy that calls my husband "daddy" but doesnt look a thing like my husband. the child doesnt even look like his mother. Ive always wanted them to get tested, but my husband is too attached to the boy to do otherwise. its killing me. i dont want to ruin this child's view on his parents, but i dont want my husband paying out the a** for a child that isnt even his. *sigh* i wish there was somehow a way to get this testing started.

I think it's a good idea, not only for the guy to know but also alot of women get accused of this and well at least then there would be no wondering on either side. I personally wouldn't be with anyone I didn't trust and who didn't trust me. And maybe if people knew their child was to be tested then it might stop them from cheating in the first place, they may just leave you instead. Good ridum's I say. :)

Interesting idea. I worked in child support services and saw cases where guys were excluded as the father. Sometimes even after the "father" and child have had a relationship for several years. I guess in some cases automatic testing could save future heartache - or unfair child support orders.

The main drawback I see is that there would be a lot of added expense - testing a lot of babies unnecessarily. When I was working in child support about a decade ago, that cheek swab testing ran $70/person. So for every child is was $210. (Mom and the alleged father were tested too.) And I would think that the majority of the guys out there currently listed on birth certificates are, in fact, correctly named as the father. So who would pay the extra expense of the testing?

Your idea is kind of neat though. Maybe if testing were available at the hospital at birth, but not necessarily a routine thing done on every baby?!?

Then again, maybe that would be kind of a damper on the whole birth experience. It could really mess up a relationship between Mom and Dad if Dad had the option to get testing and requested it.

I think it is a wonderful idea. It would save a lot of problems. If a man has doubts about the child being his, but doesnt want to ruin his marriage by bringing it up, it would save him that kinda stress. Alot of babies are born without the mom having any idea of who the daddy is ( its sad i know ). How would dna testing work then? Would they just pick the most likely father?

Yes I think that is a great idea. That way when the babies are born and the father is like. It doesn't look like me. Then he will know. My daughter looked just like hubby. My son looked just like me. If I had been him I would have been like..........lol
Really! I think it's a great idea to do DNA at birth along with the blood type. Then all is good.

Absolutely!! The child would benefit more than anyone! Who wants to go 2, 5, or 20 years thinking someone is your father only to find out he's not.

not for paternity issues, but it might make ''would-be'' criminals think a little if they KNEW they were already on file, so for crime prevention purposes....YES!
