I have not dialated any and my baby is head down. When you induce labor with no dialation, does it take longer? What are the chances of the medicine not helping me to dialate? Has anybody else had this problem? ~Patiently waiting....

i did, i felt pressure for weeks, i was induced with no dialation. I really depends on how ready the baby and your body is. I had three kids induced. they have been stubborn from the beginning!! lol
The first child did take a while, i think normally they do. Once you get to the point of them braking your water it speeds up a little, the more contractions you have, that is helping you dialate. It is a long and painful procedure. I had a epidural and this slowed things down also. It helped mildly with the pain, helps more in dealing with contractions than actual delivery.
With the other 2 kids, as soon as i got demorial (spelling may be off) it went so fast.
Good luck and i hope things are go fast. Everything is worth it in the end. The pain and everything is forgotten as soon as you see your baby!!!

I was having Braxton Hicks contractions during the end of my pregnancy.

The actual contractions are what makes you dialate. If you do not have constant or any contractions you will not dialate.

On my due date my water ruptured. (It did not break fully) I leaked for 12 hours before I went to the emergency room. I was only about 2 1/2 cm dialated.

They actually had to induce my labor for my contractions to be regular and help me dialate. (they had to keep upping my medicine every 30 minutes because it was not working at first) Finally it did.

3 hours after my water broke and I was on my way to having my son.

Let me tell you something though... those contractions or little pains you feel.... will be 4 times worse once your water breaks... Wow... does that make a difference...

Hope this helps. and good luck to you.

I was not dialated when my water broke. They induced me at 10PM and he was taken (by cesarian) at 12:33 the next day. I only dialated to 5cm. They gave me Pitocin, and yes, the labor was more intense. I didn't feel any intense labor pains until about 4.5 hours after the Pitocin. My son was too big to come out on his own, so that's why they did the c-section. Besides, he had a bowel movement in utero. But, all is well and I had a healthy 9lb. 13oz. baby boy. Good luck to you!

I had my labor induces with my first baby. They used cevadil and let me tell you- The pain is worse, the contractions are harder, the contractions are closer together (mine were a minute apart after they gave me cervadil and I wasn't even dialated at all when they gave it to me), and I would pass out in between contractions. The doctors were yelling to get me ready for an epidural because I was exhausted and screaming at the top of my lungs. And guess what- The cervadil didn't work!!! I made it to 6cm on cervadil and stayed at 6cm for 13 hours . I had to have a c-section with my son but at that point I really didn't care I just wanted him out!!! It was all worth it though!! Labor and delivery are the only pain in the world worth going through because you get this beautiful tiny little baby at the end of it all and then you forget all the pain!! I wish you the best of luck with your little bundle of joy!!God Bless!!

Every one does not experience labor the same way. You may not dialate and you'll probably have to an c-section. I was a slow dilator, It took me forever to get from 3 to 6 so i was given medication to speed it up and you really don't know how it will pan out until it's time.If you are really concerned call your Ob and they'll be able to help you. I do wish you well. Take Care

Be patient, 40 weeks is not overdue. Most of the time an OBGYN will not induce unless you have effaced and dilated to a point. It would make things a lot more difficult for you if one did. Do all of those things that they tell you to do..like walk, walk, walk. No one has actually been pregnant for their entire lives even though you probably feel as if you have been. There is a possiblity that the pitosin won't do the trick. Just continue to be patient and that baby will be here before you know it.

I had the same problem, with my first child but I honestly can't remember how long it took to dialate. But I do remember that they said once I had dialated to 4 it was pretty quick after that. Good luck!

i haven't had this problem but the doctors can put a gel on your cervix to help it soften and then start pitocin to get contractions going strong but without your cervix being favorable during induction, you have a higher risk of a c-section try taking early morning primrose im almost 38 weeks pregnant (with second though) and i've been inserting two vaginally taking 6 a day orally and rubbing some on my stomach (they are gel caps) because it is absorbed through skin its supposed to soften your cervix i went to doc yesterday and im a centimeter dialated and soft i don't know if the gel caps worked but i'd like to think they did good luck and congrats on baby!

I had the same thing happen with my daughter when I was 40 weeks. They medicated to help me dilate and it worked and later they broke my water and the whole labor took about eight hours which isn't a terrible amount of time though it is different for everyone. This was 14 years ago and they have improved things since then. I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on your baby!
