New to crabbies and we love them! But have noticed their claws turning dark red. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal...
The foods you feed it will help enhance the crabs coloring. Things like carrots, yams, colored bell peppers, high colored fish flakes, shrimp and other crustacean skins, melons, berries and other high colored fruits and veggies.

Possibly the foods they were offered prior to purchace, either when they were captured or in the wild, did not have the high content of colors and now they are recieving the proper things to help their Exo-skeletons darken up.

Also, they could have molted and have been working on darkening up and finally have, sicne sometimes, depending on diet, it takes a long time to get dark.

There is no worries here, there is nothing wrong with your crabs, actually it sounds like they are healthy and getting the proper diet... which is wonderful!

Congrats!

If you feed the hermies high in foods with Beta Carotene and other coloring enhancing foods, they can turn a brighter or darker color. Usually they change the most colors after a molt.

I adopted some hermies that were almost a black/ purple due to whatever they were being fed.
