Jackson Browne was pretty much the master of this genre:

In the Shape of a Heart: Saying goodbye to his deceased wife.

Others by JB

Fountain of Sorrow
For a Dancer

I'm sorry, the list of his really depressing songs is too long. I list a link to his website and you can sample about a minute of a number of songs in his discography.

Careful, some of them have a tinge of desperate hope.

I also further recommend the full video of "lives in the balance" on the frontpage.

The fact that song is still topical twenty years later is really depressing.

PS. If Neil Young were the godfather of grunge, Jackson Browne was the godfather and guardian of emo(the early stuff)

IT WOULD HAVE TO BE "FLY" BY CELINE DION
IF YOU DON'T CRY LET ME KNOW..
The story behind the song is straight from Celine's heart it is about her niece that was dyeing with cancer and she wrote this song for her it is so touching And when my little niece passed away I bought it and listen to it over and over..
The words Are..

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light

Is anyone crying and the music to this is just awesome..Look it up and listen to it..You will be glad you did..
