I was just curiouse b/c I could have swore that when the movie came out that I read somewhere that there is a real town out there that was discovered by scientist and researchers.

Inspiration for Silent Hill came from the town of Centralia, PA, once home of 1,000 people, which became a "ghost town" due to a disastrous mine fire.
