bring a sweater and a light jacket (something like denim) that you can layer. when its a little warmer (around 70 degrees) just wear the sweater w/o the jacket...and bring an umbrella. buying one in the city during the rain can cost you as much as 10 dollars.

enjoy your trip!

Shorts in NY in Oct wouldn't be a good idea. While you can get a warm day here or there, it can be chilly. Also, shorts are too casual for NYC unless you're thinking about the new "city" shorts. I'd go with just some jeans & a nice shirt & bring along a light jacket.

i've been to new york. I'm only 10 years old. But i was very cold. You'll need a heavy jacet, coats, pants, long sleeve shirts, socks extra blankets. All that stuff that makes you warm! When you go there don't get lost! I got lost at time square it was so confusing! But other than that, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
