If I tell my kids to "stop the shinanigans" it means that I want them to settle down and quit acting goofy or silly.

hey there! shinanagans are nasty or silly things people can be "up to" for example, i'm tired of her shinanagans, either our waitress quits flirting with my husband or she's not getting a tip." usually it's referring to something trivial yet annoying and disruptive. P.S. English is a really quirky language, so i'm proud of you and anyone who makes the effort to learn it. way 2 go.

You'll usually hear it used like "Stop the shenanigans." That means "stop fooling around." Like if a kid is just being silly (making noises, etc.) you might say that to him. But it's slang, so don't use it at work when you're talking about your boss! :)

You have received the dictionary version it looks like. Basically it just means messing around, playing around, horsing around. Generally in a friendly harmless manner. Though I could be wrong.

First of all, never call anyone a "dude".
A shenanigan is a trick or a prank.
