okay i used to be anorexic a little. it makes you skinnier because you don't eat anything so your body is using the fat you have as energy to move and stuff. so in other words if your body is using the fat you don't have fat on you because its burned up as energy. if you eat and eat and eat... you gain weight if you don't exercise because it is stored as fat which can later be used as energy. okay so anorexia is self starvation... and if you dn't eat... you lose weight... do you get it? because your body is burning the fat cells on you instead of the food.

No offense, but do you know what anorexia is? It is an eating disorder where a person eats little to nothing. When you don't eat, you have to get energy some other way. So the body burns off excess body fat, forcing people to be skinny. Hope that helps you get it...

You did not say why you are curious as to why people who suffer from "Anorexia Nervosa", loose weight. I sincerely hope that you don't have this mental illness.
I am not going write indepth on this subject matter as it will take up more space then allowed.
About 95% of the people who have this disorder are females. It usually begins at adolescence, or occasionality earlier.
They binge on food and then they purge by vomiting or taking laxatives and diuretics.
Depression is quite common. And people who have this disorder frequently lie about how much they have eaten and conceal their vomiting and their perculiar dietary habits.
Harmonal changes resulting from anorexia nervosa includes markedly reduced levels of estrogen and thyroid harmone and increased levels of cortisol.
When a person becomes seriously malnourished, every major organ system in the body is likely to be affected. Problems with the heart and with fluids and electrolytes are the most dangerous.
The heart gets weaker and pumps less blood through the body. The person becomes dehydrated and prone to fainting The blood may become acidic, and potassium levels in the blood may decrease. Vomiting and taking laxatives and diuretics can worsen this situation. Sudden death, probably from abnormal heart rhythms, may occur.
I am a clinical psychiatrist with over thirty years of experience. An I turn down any patient that comes to me with this disorder.
My reason for turning them down is that I don't want their death on my hands. The level of positive response to therapy from a professional who speciality is eating disorders is very low.
These people in my professional opinion have a "death wish".
I have seen patients die in hospitals under a doctor's care for anorexia.
Hope that I have been of help to you in this subject?.
One final word, I blame our society that we live in. You turn on the TV, or read a well known fashion magazine all their advertisements encourage you to look like a tooth pick.
Just look around you in the clothing store and you will see that the majority of clothing is for the thin person. Nothing wrong with being thin, but keep it equal to your height. (Being over weight is just as dangerous as being under weight.

Anorexia is an eating disorder where people do not eat. If you aren't consuming calories in food, you burn fat off your body for energy, losing weight, therefore they are skinny. Bulimia, another eating disorder, goes on the same idea, but instead of not eating, they throw everything that they eat up.

Very good question,
It makes people skinnnier because first they eat a lot, but then they throw up all the food, I mean all the food, and so they don't get food in thier body at all which makes them skinnier.

Because Anorexia is a psychophysiological disorder that is characterized by an abnormal fear of becoming obese, a distorted self-image, a persistent unwillingness to eat, and severe weight loss. It's often accompanied by self-induced vomiting, excessive exercise, malnutrition, amenorrhea, and other physiological changes.

Because when people are anorexic they eat small amounts of food sometimes once a day meaning fewer calories and most anorexics exercise alot too so that they can burn off the calories they ate. meaning no calories no nutrients no vitamins no pounds less weight

um. not eating definately makes you skinnier but you lose muscle too. and it makes you look gross. and it's unhealthy. and it kills you. but you gain it all back once you start eating anyways too. it's a mental disorder that makes you think you're fat so you stop eating (600 calories or less a day) and you exercise like crazy. trust me. been ther edone that. it's not worth it.

Because they are not getting any nutrition, they eat so little that their bodyuses their own stored fat for fuel, and the muscle goes too. They see themselves as fat in the mirror, and not as others see them. They do not believe others when they tell them they are thin.
