For my art appreciation class I have to make a collage. On one side I have to put things that I think are pretty to me (aka "pleasing 2 the eye") and on the other side I am to put things that are ugly (that I don't like) on the other side. so I'm trying 2 come up w/ lists 4 it. can anybody give me some ideas please?!

On the ugly side I would put things that represent the ugliness of human nature such as violence, gluttony, and greed. Just grab a couple issues of Time and you'll be set for pictures! On the pretty side do just the opposite. This will give you something different to present in class. Often, I find patterns and pictures that seem as though they would not be pleasing to the eye, but they always turn out great. Make a statement. Don't just throw things together! Good Luck!

pretty:
flowers, blue skies, fluffy clouds, puppies, mountains, swatches of colors that you like - anything that YOU think is pleasing

ugly:
dead bodies, dog doo, dirty dishes, spiders, oil spills on water

but then again, this is very personal. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think part of his point might be that what one person thinks is pretty, another may think is ugly. Just look around you and use the things you see and how you react to them.

*I wish I had homework like this!*

Why not put the same images on each side & do a conceptual piece about how pretty & ugly can be the same?

What is ugly and pretty is in the eye of the beholder. If you do need a good website though www.webshots.com is good.

Only you know what you find pretty or ugly. Are nature scenes pretty to yo, or do you think a decapitated head looks good? It's all personanl conjecture.

i suppose you're cutting pictures out of magazines for this (if not, you should be). i don't know what you think is ugly or pretty, though - this is the point of the project, i imagine.

things i think pretty: lisa bonet (people are things, get over it); piranesi's, "carceri" (though you may find them ugly); the ukiyo-e prints of yoshitoshi (ditto)

things i find ugly: posts all in CAPS LOCK!!!; cellulite; close up pix of fleas

again, however, that's just me.

Go to any third world country, it'll all be very "ugly". Or view pictures of any third world country.
