Does itunes have to automatically update the ipod or is it a way to do it manually. Pleaze help just got it today, anything would be helpful.

Yes, you CAN set it up so itunes only updates your songs manually. Not sure what the person above is talking about with your songs being deleted... if you do this, your songs WONT BE DELETED from your ipod.

Open up iTunes, with your ipod plugged in.

In iTunes, go to EDIT --> PREFERENCES --> IPOD

There will be a checkbox that says "manage my songs manually."

Once that is is checked, none of your music will be deleted from your ipod unless YOU go in through itunes, browse your ipod, and hit delete. None of your music on your computer will be added to your ipod unless you drag the files from your library.

I have had my ipod set up this way since I got it... I have 30GB worth of music on my ipod, and none of it on my PC (because my laptop hard drive is too small).

if you do it manually, you have to delete and then re-copy everything over to your ipod...itunes will do that automatically w/o deleting!
