To answer such a simple ? without the knowledge of, skin type, texture, hair and skin color, finish, waterproof, application, lasting power, bendable, expense, market place, fashion, time a day, and where you intend to wear it, will only result in a list of brand name based on what those factors of the people who answer, which may not suit you needs. Even cheap, lower quality makeup can look great if applied the right way. If you are only intending to be made up for just a few hours and unlikely to get wet or cry, why pay more waterproof of staying power. If I were you, I would go to a more expensive department stores makeup counter and have the salesperson help find what works for you. They have the knowledge to steer you toward what you are most likely to buy. Because they work on commission it is best to set a side one of the first product suggestion so they will take more time to find and sell you more. After that you'll be able to go to a cheaper store to find similar products. You can also get advice from all most all salons that offer skincare treatments. Even if they don't do shin care services hair stylists still have to learn about makeup, skincare, and manicuring to get a license to do hair.

Depends on your skin type and what you want for the money. I buy a little bit of everything, but usually lean more towards brands like Maybelline and Cover Girl. If you're willing to spend more money, though, I enjoy Clinique (especially around free gift time!).

In my opinion, pure mineral makeup (with no syntheic chemicals) is the best for several reasons: it is free of the toxic chemicals, preservatives, dyes and harmful fillers found in most commercial, non-natural cosmetics, it is actually good for your skin, it looks natural (not "cakey" or "smeary" like the commercial, non-natural cosmetics).
Be warned, however, that several mineral makeup companies are not as "pure" and "natural" as they claim. For example, Bare Minerals foundation (from Bare Escentuals) contains an ingredient named Bismuth Oxychloride, which is the by-product of lead and copper refining, as well as other metals to a smaller degree. Bismuth Oxychloride irritates the skin, making it itch and burn in many people. Also, Bare Minerals Mineral Veil contains parabens which are highly toxic formaldehyde-releasing ingredients which are carcinogenic, increasing the risk of cancer in both men and women.
Everyday Minerals ( http://www.everydayminerals.com/ ) has excellent mineral makeup free of any synthetic chemcials and they have great prices.
Cory Cosmetics ( http://www.corycosmetics.com/ ) is another great mineral makeup company that stands true to it's "pure" claim.
Afterglow Cosmetics ( http://www.afterglowcosmetics.com/ ) is also another good brand and they have some very interesting facts about "regular makeup" on their site (on their "truth" page).

Personally I like Artistry. It is in the top 5 prestige brands with Lancome & Clinique, but cheaper...still pricey but worth it. You definatly get what you pay for with make up.
