Was that a truly serious question? It's what keeps the band going. Without it, it would all fall apart. There has to be some bassiness.

Yes, a bassist is necessary and the low e on a guitar will not do the same job. To you guys it may sound ok, but to the audience it will sound like something is missing. Bass literally releases a chemical in the brain that makes the body move. That's why popular music and dance tunes have a lot of dominant bass. I suggest you hire a temp, or a couple of them, bassist for your gigs till you find a perm replacement.

Maybe not on some songs, but the Drummer and the Bass work as a Team to keep everybody else in line.

absoulutely you need one. even in a 3 peice punk band, there is always this setup: a Bass. drums guitar and Bass. i know its hard to find people to play it, but its actually easier to play, and makes the big chunky booming noises people like about most music. the Bass is the one who'll be hear when they turn their Bass knobs all the way up.

no, not necessarily
look at the white stripes for example
if you tune the guitar low enough it sounds like a bass
it does do a lot to the sound, in multiple ways, but its not vital in some cases
it does take a part in keeping the beat and adding to the sound coming from the band, and it really helps,
this is kind of hard to answer though, becase it is really really important, but u dont have to have it,....but....ehh....yea....
i read ur additional details and until u get a bass player that may work, like i said listen to some of the white stripes singles, that's a guitar not a bass....try "seven nation army"

Listen to John Entwistle or John Paul Jones or Scott Thunes or Paul McCartney or Bruce Thomas and you'll hear why it's necessary.

Most definitely. Without bass, there would be no rock and roll.

Yes, absolutely...But too bad these Screamo bands (Fallout Boy, ******! at the disco) dont seem to really use them. they just follow the guitar.
only exeption goes to the doors.

not if you can duplicate the bass line with keyboards, but yeah, a bass line is ablsolutely necessary.
