Slavery has been around since people discovered they could overpower others. The Old Testament is full of reference to slaves. The whole Hebrew nation was enslaved by the Egyptians. Slaves existed all over the world long before the Africans were taken to America to work in the cotton plantations. Also many African tribes sold others they had captured to the white slavers. Notable slavers were the Romans, the Arabs, the Greeks, the Chines, the Japanese many African peoples, S American Indians and may others. Slavery still happens even today. Watch the film 'Ashanti' starring Michael Caine.

If you're talking about slavery in America and its history, the answer is no. In Africa, after contact was made with the whites, deals were struck between the whites and certain tribes whereby those tribes would catch people from opposing tribes and sell them to the white man. Then, they were eventually shipped to the US. It was a partnership between the blacks of Africa and the white Europeans that brought slaves to America. Both sides retain responsibility.

Unfortunately slavery been around a lot longer than what the morons of the 13 colonies did here a couple hundred years ago. And it still goes on today in other parts of the world. At least the USA was smart enough to abolish it a while back, even though it took a lot of persuasion from folks who had the guts enough to fight against slavery and segregation.

No, slavery wasn't the sole prerogative of the white man. There are no dates as to when slavery began, but it was common among the native peoples in Africa, in North America, in China, in Asia, in Britain etc.etc.etc. It's quite likely that at some time in the development of each of earth's civilizations, slavery was a component.

Sorry, buddy, you can't lay yet another guilt trip on Whitey about slavery. African tribes used captured prisoners of war as slaves for centuries before Europeans had colonies there. When the Europeans arrived, they saw a way of making a lot of money by selling these slaves to white people. They did it to themselves, but many black people are in denial about this and want to blame it all on the white race.

Slavery was known throughout Africa for centuries before white traders sailed into African ports. Slaves were used as money to purchase a wife, cattle or crops and to pay taxes.

The fact is we (white men) did not start slavery. We ended legal slavery!

Slavery started thousands of years ago and was a way for someone to pay a debt they couldn't pay or it was a result of a region being conquered and taking the survivors as slaves as well. It was very common to have slaves and wasn't directed to a particular race or color of skin.
