The last word says "Châtellerault", that is a town in France where swords where made during Napoleon's era... Follow the link for historic facts

I found your swords at http://users.skynet.be/euro-swords/
on top the fifth sword is like yours, scroll down and you will see the same inscription "Manufactured in the Factory of Châtellerault 1815"

Hi again, sorry I missed the writing the first time round, but this time I can be 100 positive on this: It says: Manufacture Imperiale de Chatelereau, Modele 1815. Chatelereau is just the town where the factory was. My original mistake was due to the fact that I personally own a model 1822, also from the same manufacturer, which has the same unmistakable shape and proportions. This is the year Napoleon was finally kicked out! These early ones are worth a mint! I would personally have this professionally valued. Hope this helps,
f.

hi, this is a french sword, but am not an expert and i don't know the name is called... as for the words graved on her back they are: Manufre = Impale = de Châtellerault. the first one it mean handmade, th esecond is like to say 'produced' and the last is the name of the town where it is made, so: handmade produced in Châtellerault. the name of the town you can read Chatelro ;)

Looks like a fairly standard cavalry sabre - it looks as though the previous responders' conclusions about the inscription are correct as well.
