If they are cooked yes it is bad since they will splinter and can cause intestinal damage or lodge in the throat, however if fed raw they aren't usually a problem since they are pliable. Most raw feeders feed chicken bones and all to their dogs.

Raw bones are ok, as dogs/cats are more than capable of digesting them, as they would eat bones raw in the wild. Cooking bones not only takes the majority of nutrients out of the bone, but it also causes the bone to go brittle and splinter, which can seriously harm your dog/cat. Any raw bones are ok, any cooked ones are not. I have seen photos of family pets with severely lacerated stomachs and throats because of splintered cooked bones. Some pets can go their whole life without getting seriously injured, but to me it's just not worth the risk- it's very hard to tell if your pet is injured internally, and if you don't get it in time, there is a serious risk of death.

That's why some say no chicken bones, but they are alright raw- think of it this way, what is a cats favourite food?- birds!

All the best- I'm glad you took the time to ask this question, as most people can be mislead by the myths floating around.

Absolutely! Chicken bones splinter into small shards and can become lodged in a dogs/cats throat or even travel into the intestines and create some very severe problems.

Common sense would dictate only bones especially made for dogs are safe. And I don't think bones can be considered a desired cat food.

Most people do not feed chicken bones because they splinter and puncture the intestines. This will kill the dog if not treated. It is a horrible death.

Some dogs learn early on to chomp them well and eat chicken bones all their life without a problem.

My advise is if you want to feed chicken. Boil the chicken and remove the bones. Feed the chicken only.

If you want to feed bones I would advise not to feed the leg bones & wing bones.

I have never heard of or seen any problems with cats and chicken bones as they tend to chew their food well.

Chicken bones break and splinter very easily. This can cause sharp edges that can damage a dogs digestive track and kill the dog. It's not safe to give them chicken bones or any bird bones.

DO NOT GIVE CHICKEN BONES TO PETS!They are not as dense as cow bones so they have a tendency to break and/or splinter when chewed which can cause a LOT of problems. Your pet could cut his gums, mouth, throat, or even stomach. The pieces of bone can also cut your pet's intestine if they weren't completely digested. Plus if the bone gets stuck or your pet swallows too big of a piece then it will cause them to choke. I work at a vet clinic and I have seen a lot of pets have serious problems from chicken bones. Several have choked to death because of it so PLEASE don't risk your pets life for it!

Because the chicken bones may splinter and slice the inside of your dog or cat's mouth causing them to choke. It's not easy to get a chicken bone out of a dog's mouth after he has gotten it stuck either. (It's pretty gross.)

Chicken bones are very bad for dogs and cats because the splinter. Many beloved pets have died from them because the splinters pierce the inside of their stomach.

depends who u ask. most agree that cooked bones are bad because they are brittle and will splinter & can become lodged internally. they can get stuck in the roof of the mouth, throat and intestines, and should be avoided, according to many vets. but some say raw ones are soft enough so that they bend easily and break well for the dog to digest. however read the 2nd link below & she would beg to differ.
